We are pleased to share that the HYDROPHIL GmbH (lead partner) – IRD Engineering Joint Venture has been awarded the contract for the supervision of Phase II of the Sewerage Network Project in Nikšić, following an international tender process. The contract was recently signed with the Municipality of Nikšić.

This project forms part of Montenegro’s broader efforts to strengthen wastewater infrastructure and advance alignment with EU environmental standards. It is financed through a combination of European Investment Bank (EIB) funding and grants from the WBIF – Western Balkans Investment Framework, a flagship platform bringing together the European Commission, international financial institutions and bilateral donors to support strategic investments across the Western Balkans.

As the Supervising Engineer, the Hydrophil GmbH – IRD Engineering JV will oversee the implementation of:

  • More than 41 km of new sewerage network
  • Construction of the new Ćemenca Pumping Station
  • Rehabilitation of the existing Duklo Pumping Station
  • Extension of wastewater services to over 10,500 residents in Dragova Luka, Ćemenca, Ostrovac and Rubeža
  • Enhanced performance of the existing Nikšić Wastewater Treatment Plant, which currently operates below its design capacity.

IRD Engineering has been active in Montenegro for several years, supporting the delivery of transport, water, environmental and municipal infrastructure projects financed by international financial institutions and development partners. This new assignment further reinforces our commitment to supporting sustainable infrastructure development and improving the quality of life of local communities across the country.

Beyond the engineering scope, the project will deliver significant environmental benefits by reducing groundwater contamination from septic systems and improving the quality of the Bistrica and Zeta rivers, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable future for the Municipality of Nikšić.
