We are proud to announce that on 15th October 2026, IRD Engineering and the Albanian Road Authority (ARRSH) signed the contract for the Design Review and Supervision of the Works for Vjosa Bridge and Connecting Road, under the Building Resilient Bridges Project (BRBP), financed by the International Bank for Reconstruction & Development (IBRD), World Bank Group (WBG).

The contract was signed by Mr. Ami Kozeli, Director General of ARRSH, and Mr. Paolo Orsini, Managing Director of IRD Engineering, in the presence of Ms. Rexhina Rekipi, Head of PIU, and Mr. Artan Tapia, Procurement Manager, of ARRSH, and Mr. Erion Ndrekaj, IRD Engineering’s Country Manager for Albania.

The project includes a new bridge of about 500 m across the Vjosa River at Tepelena and the upgrade of the 5 km connecting road from the Beçisht intersection to Dragoti Bridge. It will strengthen a key link between the SH4 North–South axis and the Këlcyrë–Përmet–Çarshovë corridor.

Over the next 40 months, IRD Engineering will:

  • Review and update the existing designs into a single, climate-resilient, Eurocode-compliant final design;
  • Prepare the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment, with particular care for the Vjosa Wild River National Park, Europe’s first wild river national park;
  • Supervise construction as the FIDIC Engineer and carry out post-construction inspections during the 12-month Defects Notification Period.

We thank ARRSH, the World Bank, and all project stakeholders for their trust, as well as our partners and subcontractors for their valuable contribution. We look forward to delivering safer, more resilient infrastructure for the communities of southern Albania together.
