IRD Engineering S.r.l., acting as Lead Consultant and Technical Coordinator of a multidisciplinary Joint Venture, has been awarded the contract for the detailed design of the upgrading of the national road SS45 “Val di Trebbia” road corridor between Cernusca and Rivergaro, one of the most significant transport infrastructure investments currently planned in the Province of Piacenza, Northern Italy.
The assignment has been awarded within a Joint Venture composed of IRD Engineering S.r.l. (Lead Partner), Idroesse Engineering S.r.l., GIS Design S.r.l., Ingesca S.r.l., and Marco Abordi, under a direct contract with CEC – Consorzio Stabile Europeo Costruttori S.c.a.r.l. as part of an integrated design-build procurement scheme “BO 13/24 – SS45 “Della Val di Trebbia” – Upgrading of the national Road No. 45 between Cernusca and Rivergaro”, launched by ANAS S.p.A., acting as the Main Contracting Authority.
The project concerns the modernization of approximately 11 km of the SS45 “Val Trebbia”, between Cernusca (km 110+300) and Rivergaro (km 121+500). This strategic corridor connects the city of Piacenza with Genoa through the Trebbia Valley, serving local communities, commercial activities, and regional mobility needs. The intervention is intended to substantially improve road safety, travel efficiency, network resilience, and traffic capacity along one of the most important transportation routes in the area.
The proposed scheme includes the construction of a new road alignment, six new roundabouts and a network of primary and secondary road connections to improve local accessibility, and a landmark three-span viaduct over the Trebbia River in the Corte Brugnatella area. The project also includes retaining structures, drainage systems, hydraulic protection measures, and a comprehensive set of environmental and landscape mitigation interventions.
Through this assignment, IRD Engineering further consolidates its role as a trusted partner in the delivery of complex transportation infrastructure projects, drawing on its extensive experience in highway engineering, bridge design, environmental integration, and multidisciplinary project management.
