IRD Engineering has successfully completed and delivered the full multidisciplinary Technical Project Documentation for the construction of Albania’s new Temporary Storage Facility for Collected Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW), financed by the U.S. Department of State and implemented by ITF Enhancing Human Security in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior and the General Directorate of the State Police.
The assignment covered the complete design package, including architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, fire protection, hydrotechnical, environmental, energy efficiency and infrastructure engineering services, as well as the preparation of technical specifications, detailed cost estimates, and the full construction permit documentation.
Designed to meet the highest standards of safety and security, the facility will support the secure storage and management of collected weapons, helping Albania strengthen its national SALW control capacity and align with international best practices.

The facility incorporates reinforced structures, controlled access systems, surveillance technologies, fire protection measures and optimized operational layouts to ensure the safe storage, handling and monitoring of weapons.
With the design phase now completed, the project is ready to proceed to construction, representing an important milestone in Albania’s efforts to enhance public safety and strengthen its national security infrastructure.
ITF has been supporting Albania for more than a decade through programs focused on explosive ordnance clearance, ammunition risk reduction, capacity building, victim assistance, and broader human security initiatives.
IRD Engineering builds on more than 20 years of continuous presence in Albania, where the company has successfully delivered numerous infrastructure, institutional, security-related and military engineering projects.
Beyond traditional infrastructure projects, IRD Engineering has developed significant expertise in the defence and security sectors, delivering engineering and project management services for military facilities, police infrastructure, border management systems, secure storage facilities, command and control centers, critical infrastructure protection and donor-funded security projects.
