On 4th November, our team attended the ceremony marking the start of works on the Wastewater Management System Improvement project in Mojkovac, Montenegro.

IRD Engineering is the appointed Engineer and Works Supervisor. We will oversee the project from groundbreaking through to completion, which is planned for 2029.

The overall investment is funded by a European Union grant through the WBIF – Western Balkans Investment Framework, a loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB), and by the budgets of the Government of Montenegro and the Municipality of Mojkovac.

The project will separate the storm-water and sewerage networks in Mojkovac town and build around 8 km of new sewerage in its suburbs. It will also upgrade the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP).

Mojkovac lies at the gateway to the Tara River gorge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Better collection and treatment of wastewater will greatly reduce the risk of pollution to one of Montenegro’s most valuable natural assets.

As Davor Kunc, Head of the EIB Representation to Montenegro, put it: “For the people of Mojkovac, this project means cleaner water, a healthier environment and more reliable sanitation services.”

Our thanks go to the Municipality of Mojkovac, the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development, DOO “Project – Consulting” – Podgorica (PROCON), the EIB, the EU Delegation to Montenegro and the WBIF. We look forward to working together at every stage, from groundbreaking to 2029, to ensure technical and environmental excellence.
