IRD Engineering, in consortium with Romair Consulting, has officially signed the contract for the supervision of the construction of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) and the extension of the sewerage network in the Municipality of Tetovo, North Macedonia.
The project is funded by the European Union (EU) under the IPA II Instrument, underlining the EU’s continued commitment to strengthening environmental infrastructure, protecting public health, and supporting alignment with EU standards in the Western Balkans.
Under this assignment, the IRD‑led Consortium will act as the Engineer, providing comprehensive supervision services for the design and construction of a new WWTP with a capacity of approximately 95,000 population equivalent (PE), implemented under FIDIC Yellow Book, and the extension of the municipal sewerage network, implemented under FIDIC Red Book, ensuring full compliance with contractual obligations, technical specifications, environmental and social safeguards, health and safety standards, quality requirements, budgets, and project timelines.
Once completed, the project will significantly contribute to improved wastewater collection and treatment services in the Tetovo agglomeration, reduced pollution of the Vardar River basin, better public health and living conditions for local communities, and North Macedonia’s progress towards compliance with the EU Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive.
This contract further reinforces IRD’s strong track record in the water and sanitation sector, building on its involvement in major wastewater and water infrastructure projects across the region, including:
- Supervision of the Skopje Wastewater Treatment Plant (North Macedonia)
- Supervision of the Niš WWTP (Serbia)
- Supervision of the Mojkovac and Kolašin WWTPs (Montenegro)
- Implementation of the EIB Water and Sanitation Programme in Republika Srpska (Bosnia and Herzegovina)
Through these and many other assignments financed by the European Union and international financial institutions, IRD continues to support clients in delivering sustainable, resilient, and high‑quality water and sanitation infrastructure, contributing to long‑term environmental protection and institutional strengthening.
