We are pleased to announce that IRD Engineering in association with SUEZ, has signed a new service contract with the EU Delegation Serbia European Union for the project “Improved Implementation of National and EU Regulations for Commercial Vehicles.”
The assignment will be implemented under the Framework Contract FWC SEA 2023 – Lot 4 and aims to improve road transport in Serbia by strengthening the administrative and enforcement capacities of national institutions responsible for road transport legislation.
Recent European Commission Annual Progress Reports have encouraged Serbia to intensify efforts to enhance road safety at both national and local levels. While the legal framework for the transport of dangerous goods is already largely aligned with EU standards, further improvements are recommended, particularly in reinforcing inspection bodies, enhancing coordination among authorities, and continuing the harmonisation of legislation with the EU acquis, especially in the field of dangerous goods.
This new project will support the strengthening of administrative capacities and joint operations among the key public enforcement authorities:
- Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure (MoCTI)
- Ministry of Interior (MoI)
- Road Traffic Safety Agency of the Republic of Serbia (Agencija za bezbednost saobraćaja)
Activities will include:
- conducting extensive roadside checks of professional drivers;
- carrying out inspections at the premises of transport operators;
- implementing EU compliant risk rating of transport companies;
- strengthening MoCTI’s administrative capacities in the field of dangerous goods transport;
- improving evidence based planning and decision making.
The project will commence in early February 2026 and will run for 18 months.
