On July 5, 2025, the Minister of Construction of the Kyrgyz Republic, Mr. Nurdan Oruntaev, visited the construction site of the wastewater treatment plant in Cholpon-Ata to review the progress of the Issyk-Kul Environmental Management and Sustainable Tourism Development Project.
The visit involved key stakeholders including representatives from the Project Implementation Unit (PIU), the Consultant Joint Venture IRD Engineering and ARS Progetti, the Contractors, and the management and technical team of the Cholpon-Ata Municipal Water Utility (Vodokanal).
During the visit, the following were presented and discussed:
- The current status of construction works on the wastewater treatment facility
- Key phases of project implementation
- Technical drawings and 3D visualizations of the planned infrastructure
- Environmental and social safeguards integrated into the project
The Minister was shown crucial construction zones including equipment installation areas, excavation and concrete works, and the planned integration with Cholpon-Ata’s utility systems.
The visit concluded with a productive discussion involving the PIU and Consultant teams on challenges, timelines, and coordination efforts among all project partners.
