The Ministry of Transport of Canton Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina is implementing the Sarajevo Urban Roads Project, an ambitious plan to upgrade and modernise its strategic road network by enhancing the urban transport within the city of Sarajevo and by connecting it to other parts of the Canton.
In this context, the breakthrough of the right tube at the Kobilja Glava tunnel (635 meters-long) took place last week during a ceremony that counted on the participation of the Prime Minster of Canton Sarajevo, Mr. Nihad Uk, and the Minister of Transport, Mr. Adnan Šteta.
“We expect the second pipe to be broken in the next couple of months so we can solve the traffic collapse in rush hours at the entrance and exit of the city, to relieve the traffic in Sarajevo Canton,” said Prime Minister Uk.
“This is one of the most demanding tunnels to be built, due to its location, soil structure and the fact that there are hundreds of residential buildings above the tunnel. I would like to thank everyone for their efforts and work”, declared the Minister of Transport of Sarajevo Canton, Mr. Adnan Šteta.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, EBRD, is supporting this strategic infrastructure programme, which consists of the construction of the “Tunnel Kobilja Glava“, together with the section from the tunnel to the connection to M18, and the connection road between IX Transversal and LOT 2C of the Sarajevo Bypass.
