Official ceremony to kick off the construction of the motorway Prilep – Bitola, a project supervised by a Joint Venture led by IRD Engineering in North Macedonia.

An official ceremony took place this morning to mark the start of the construction of the motorway section Bitola – Prilep, in the south of North Macedonia, near the border with Greece. The new section, 39.3 kilometers long, is part of the strategic Pan-European Corridor X-d.

Corridor X runs from Salzburg to Thessaloniki, passing through Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, North Macedonia, and Greece. It has four branches (a, b, c, and d) and branch d corresponds to the road connecting Veles – Prilep – Bitola – Florina and Igoumenitsa (Via Egnatia).

All works will be supervised by a joint venture led by IRD Engineering, and counting on the participation of the partner companies Eptisa, Elektra Solutions and Euro Consult, thanks to an important contract signed with the Public Enterprise for State Roads of North Macedonia aiming at the implementation of the services “Supervision and Legal Transactions Consultant for Construction Works on Corridor VIII and Corridor X-d”.

The event counted on the participation of the Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia, Mr. Dimitar Kovačevski, the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Artan Grubi, the Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr. Blagoj Bochvarski, the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr. Bekim Rexhepi, the General Director of the Public Enterprise for State Roads, Mr. Eyup Rustemi, and by IRD Engineering Country Manager, Mr. Darko Spiroski, and several representatives of the works contractor, the US-Turkish consortium Bechtel-Enka.

“Modern infrastructure is the future of any economy. It brings new investments and new jobs. It connects cities and makes regions richer. This state-of-the-art motorway will represent a turning point in the economic development of our nation”, Prime Minister Kovačevski declared, exhorting all parties to “stop talking and get to work”.
