A Joint Venture composed by the companies Intercontinental Consultants and Technocrats, Sheladia Associates, and IRD Engineering, together with several local subcontractors, have resulted awarded with the contract “Consulting Services by Project Implementation Consultant for Supervision of Civil Works and Safeguard Activities of South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation Dhaka-Sylhet Corridor Road Investment Project” in Bangladesh.

This important road connects Dhaka (capital city of Bangladesh) to the border with India via the Sylhet-Tamabil section. Its upgrade will improve the efficiency, connectivity, and safety of this vital trade corridor, part of the Asian Highway-1 and Asian Highway-2.

The $2.69 billion overall scheme is financed by the Asian Development Bank and the Government of Bangladesh. The scope of civil works under the investment project includes the improvement of the existing 210 kilometres long two-lane Dhaka–Sylhet National Highway (N2) into a four-lane divided carriageway with service lanes on both sides.

The new flexible pavement highway will include 60 km of footpaths, 70 bridges of 4.25 km length, 4 flyovers of 4.35 km in total, 26 footbridges, and 13 overpasses, as well as various culverts and underpasses. Its design will have features responsive to the needs of the elderly, women, children, and the differently abled, as well as resilience against disaster and climate risks.

Works are organised in 6 work packages with 13 lots and the construction contracts will be governed by FIDIC MDB Harmonized Conditions of Contracts.

This is the first awarded contract for IRD Engineering in the country, after having set up a new team that will develop the presence of the company in all countries in South Asia.
