The reconstruction of the Berane to Kolašin road and its upgrading to regional road status was considered as a high priority by the Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs’ (MoTMA) strategy for development of Montenegro’s regional road network.
This road provides a direct link from the regional center at Berane to the national M-9 road at Kolašin, which will halve the distance between Berane and Kolašin on the national route. The road was in a very poor condition with several sections being frequently closed during the winter. The reconstruction and upgrade of the road was necessary to improve access to Montenegro’s relatively undeveloped north-east region, which borders Serbia and Kosovo.
One civil works contract for Works of Tunnel Construction and Road Reconstruction on Lubnice – Jezerine road section, km 10+321.910 – km 24+757.540 was awarded in Q2/Q3 2016 for the following sections of road:
- Location Lubnice-Jelovica from km 10+321.910 to km 16+932.409 (overall length 6.61 km), works on: road, supported walls and geotechnical constructions and bridge/culverts and gallery (80 m).
- Location Jelovica from km 16+932.409 to km 19+933.339 (overall length 3.01 km), works on: road, supported walls and geotechnical construction and bridge/culvert
- Location Klisura from km 19+933.339 to km 23+798.963 (overall length 3.87 km), works on: road, bridge/culvert, bridge (Bridge Jezerine), road tunnel NATM (2,814 m) and 2 evacuation tunnels
- Location Jezerine from km 23+798.963 to km 24+757.540 (overall length 0.95km), road, supported walls and geotechnical constructions.
The approximate value of the project was 70 mln Euro (funded by EBRD).
