The Government of the Republic of Moldova officially inaugurated the newly constructed M3 Slobozia Mare Bypass Road on 27th July, marking the completion of a landmark infrastructure project that will modernize transport connections, strengthen international trade routes, and significantly improve the quality of life for local communities in southern Moldova.

Constructed entirely on a new alignment, the 16.6-kilometre bypass represents the culmination of a long-awaited initiative to redirect heavy transit traffic away from residential areas while enhancing one of Moldova’s most strategic transport corridors.

The official ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by senior government representatives, including Mr. Igor Grosu, President of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, and Mr. Vladimir Bolea, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development.

As Engineer and Contract Administrator under the FIDIC Red Book Conditions of Contract, IRD Engineering provided technical supervision services throughout the project, ensuring compliance with international quality, safety, and construction standards.

The M3 Slobozia Mare Bypass is the latest milestone in IRD Engineering’s long-standing contribution to Moldova’s infrastructure development. Over the years, the company has successfully delivered supervision, project management, and technical assistance services across numerous transport and infrastructure projects throughout the country, including major road rehabilitation programs on the R6, R14, R34, M2, and R33 corridors, as well as railway modernization and municipal infrastructure initiatives. Through these projects, IRD Engineering has consistently supported Moldova’s strategic objective of developing safer, more efficient, and more sustainable transport networks.

The new two-lane bypass, financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), forms a key section of Moldova’s M3 national corridor, providing the most direct connection between Chișinău and the Giurgiulești International Free Port, continuing onward to the Giurgiulești-Galați border crossing with Romania.

The project includes high-visibility reflective road markings, modern metal safety barriers, approximately 960 traffic signs, comprehensive drainage systems, modern roundabouts, 31 bridges and culverts, and three public transport passenger shelters. Additional lanes on critical road sections and ramps further enhance traffic flow for heavy vehicles and reduce bottlenecks along the M3 corridor.

The completion of the M3 Slobozia Mare Bypass reflects Moldova’s broader ambition to strengthen regional connectivity, improve international logistics corridors, and develop resilient infrastructure aligned with European standards.
