The Republic of Moldova has received financing from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the International Development Association (IDA) for the implementation of the Moldova Rural Connectivity Project.

This project supports the rehabilitation and upgrading of approximately 95 kilometres of priority local roads, designed with climate-resilient solutions to ensure reliable, all‑weather access to markets, schools, healthcare facilities, and other social and economic centres. The works also include enhanced road safety measures, particularly near schools and densely populated areas.

The priority corridors selected for intervention are:

  • Corridor 5: R13 Ivanovca – Izvoare – Varnița – Ocolina – M2 (35 km)
  • Corridors 8.1 & 8.2: Cornești – Boghenii Noi – Năpădeni – M5 (G88) (33 km)
  • Corridor 24: R34 Ciobălaccia – Tărtaul – R56 Baimaclia – Enichioi – R37 (43 km)

Within this framework, IRD Engineering and the Moldovan National Roads Administration have signed a new contract for the Supervision Services of the Rehabilitation Works on Corridor 8, covering the sections:

  • G88 Cornești – Boghenii Noi – Năpădeni – M5, and
  • G86 G88 – Dereneu – G85.

The 33 km corridor, located in the centre‑western region of Moldova, forms a strategic connection between the Ungheni and Călărași districts and links two major national roads: R1 (towards the Romanian border) and M5 (towards the Ukrainian border).

This upgraded link will significantly enhance mobility for rural communities, enabling faster access to major cities such as Bălți, Ungheni, and Chișinău, reducing travel times, and improving the efficiency of supply transport. More broadly, it will strengthen access to essential public services and critical national infrastructure across the country.

A team of international and local engineers from IRD Engineering will perform the duties of the Engineer under the FIDIC Conditions of Contract (Red Book, 2nd Edition 2017, reprinted 2022 with Amendments), including contract administration and the management of variations and claims throughout project implementation.

IRD Engineering has maintained a strong presence in the Republic of Moldova since 2011, operating through its branch office and bringing together experienced civil engineers, project managers, and technical specialists. The company continues to deliver several major infrastructure projects supported by international financial institutions.
