Kazakhstan’s population and natural resources are unevenly distributed, resulting in a high dependence on the efficient movement of people and goods. Travel distances are substantial (e.g. 1,200 km from Astana to Almaty). For all these reasons, developing its transport infrastructure is recognized as a priority in Kazakhstan’s Economic Policy.

Within its national road infrastructure programme, IRD Engineering has been awarded with a new assignment. It is aimed at the supervision of one works contract for the widening into four lanes of several road sections with a total length of 81 km. The route belongs to the itinerary connecting the 2 biggest cities of Kazakhstan – Nur-Sultan and Almaty. This is the third contract awarded to IRD in the country.

For 33 months, a team of engineers from IRD will review the design documentation, bringing it to the desired standards, and will carry out the supervision of all works according to FIDIC Conditions of Contract.

The total investment value is 70 mln Euro, being implemented with the support of EBRD and IBRD.
