Supervision of Wastewater Management System Improvement – Municipality of Mojkovac

IRD Engineering has been appointed to supervise the improvement of the wastewater management system in the Municipality of Mojkovac, including the expansion of the sewerage network and the rehabilitation of the existing Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). The project combines two parallel components under a hybrid FIDIC contract, ensuring coordinated implementation and high-quality environmental performance.
- Part 1 – Construction of Sewerage Network (FIDIC Red Book)
- Supervision of new wastewater collection infrastructure in Mojkovac and surrounding settlements, including:
- Separation of stormwater and wastewater networks in the city centre (DN 250–300, approx. 2,060 m);
- Construction of new sewerage pipelines in Ambarine, Juškovica potok and Podbišće (DN 110–250, approx. 7.99 km).
- Part 2 – Rehabilitation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (FIDIC Yellow Book)
The existing WWTP, operational since 2008, will undergo a phased rehabilitation to reach its ultimate design capacity of 7,300 PE, with Phase 1 works focusing on 5,250 PE. Effluent treatment capacity will be increased from 580 m³/day to 1,178 m³/day.
Supervision covers design review and site oversight for:
- Mechanical pre-treatment discharge improvements and new manhole construction;
- Rehabilitation of the bio-aeration tank, overflow weir and associated structures;
- Reconstruction and extension of the distribution chamber for the final sedimentation tank (FST);
- Cleaning and rehabilitation of FST and connecting pipes;
- Replacement of sludge pumping connections and hydro-mechanical equipment;
- Upgrades to SCADA, instrumentation, and process control systems;
- Final testing and verification of effluent quality.
- Key process units include: fine screens, grit/grease chamber, pre-denitrification tank, bio-aeration tank, final sedimentation tank, and outlet structure with flow/DO/pH monitoring.
Scope of Services
As Engineer and Works Supervisor, IRD ensures full technical, contractual and environmental-social compliance by supervising the works in accordance with Technical Specifications, FIDIC Conditions and national legislation, reviewing and releasing design documents and engineering calculations for the WWTP component, and continuously monitoring progress, testing and adherence to the Environmental and Social Management Plan
