National Strategy and Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure

IRD Engineering supports the Government of North Macedonia in preparing a national strategy for the transition to electric mobility and the deployment of a modern, accessible EV charging network. The assignment contributes to national decarbonisation goals and international climate commitments by defining a clear policy framework for the development of low-carbon and resilient transport systems.

The project combines technical, regulatory, institutional, and market analyses to define realistic transition pathways, investment priorities, and the enabling conditions required for large-scale adoption of electric vehicles. It also integrates gender-responsive considerations, stakeholder engagement, and assessments of infrastructure readiness and electricity system impacts.

Scope of Services

IRD Engineering develops a comprehensive EV Strategy supported by an Action and Investment Plan through the analysis of current policies, infrastructure, market conditions, and international best practices, alongside long-term EV transition scenarios up to 2050. The team identifies gaps, regulatory needs, investment requirements, and incentive mechanisms, and prepares a structured roadmap for government approval. The assignment also supports the rollout of priority short-term actions by defining implementation and procurement strategies, assessing regulatory and financial implications, and conducting cost-benefit analyses covering environmental and economic impacts. The outcome is a clear and actionable framework to accelerate North Macedonia’s shift toward sustainable and inclusive electric mobility.
