IRD Engineering is honoured to have contributed to the development of the National Road Safety Strategy 2026-2030 and the Action Plan 2027-2029, which have now been officially approved by the Council of Ministers of Albania and published in the Official Gazette.
This landmark achievement marks a significant step towards safer roads, reducing fatalities and serious injuries, and further aligning Albania’s transport sector with European road safety standards.
Delivered through the “Support for Road Sector Reform and Road Safety Strategy” project, funded by the European Union through the Delegation of the European Union to Albania, this assignment is carried out in close cooperation with national institutions and stakeholders.
Developed in line with international best practices and the Safe System Approach, the Strategy provides a comprehensive framework for improving road safety governance, infrastructure, enforcement, vehicle safety, post-crash response, and road user behaviour, while advancing towards the long-term objective of Vision Zero.
Key measures include the review of speed limits based on road function and risk, the expansion of intelligent traffic monitoring and speed enforcement systems, the protection of vulnerable road users, enhanced data-driven decision-making, and strengthened institutional capacity for road safety management.
This achievement reflects the dedication, expertise, and collaboration of our valued partners SUEZ and DRI upravljanje investicij, d. o. o., together with an outstanding team of national and international experts whose commitment helped transform this vision into reality. The project also highlights IRD Engineering’s Technical Assistance and Capacity Building expertise, supporting governments and public institutions in strengthening governance frameworks, developing sustainable infrastructure policies, and building institutional capacity. Through knowledge transfer, capacity development, and technical support across the infrastructure sector, IRD helps deliver long-lasting economic and social benefits that contribute to sustainable development.
