A significant milestone has been reached in the modernization of Central Asia’s utility infrastructure.

Following a high-level meeting between Mr. Akhmad Suvankulov, Chairman of the Board at AO “Uzsuvtaminot” (Uzbekistan’s national water supply operator), and Mr. Alvaro Diez Santaclara, Deputy Director of IRD Engineering s.r.l., the project has officially transitioned into its active implementation phase.

On the following day, a comprehensive kick-off meeting was convened to launch the project, titled “Water Resources Management Development through Climate Technologies.”

This initiative represents a 125 million USD investment, fully funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The project brings together an international and local consortium of industry specialists tasked with driving the comprehensive digitalization of Uzbekistan’s water supply enterprises:

IRD Engineering s.r.l. (Italy): Leading the project management, consultancy, and engineering oversight.

SU-YAPI Engineering & Consulting Inc. (Türkiye): Providing extensive international expertise in water infrastructure engineering and design.

Almaviva Group (Italy): Delivering cutting-edge information technology and digital transformation solutions to establish smart utility frameworks.

AMEC: Serving as the local consultancy partner, ensuring critical regional expertise and seamless on-the-ground execution.

Key Objectives and Next Steps:

Digital Transformation: The deployment of smart, climate-resilient technologies designed to optimize water distribution, mitigate losses, and enhance overall operational efficiency across the national network.

Operational Alignment: During the kick-off session, the consortium presented a detailed implementation roadmap, aligning all stakeholders with a rigorous, pre-approved schedule to ensure timely project delivery.

As climate change continues to place unprecedented pressure on global water resources, this strategic collaboration—combining international engineering standards, advanced technological innovation, local insights, and multilateral climate finance—serves as a robust model for developing sustainable, future-proof public infrastructure.

Congratulations to the management and project teams at Uzsuvtaminot, IRD Engineering, Su Yapı, Almaviva, and AMEC on the successful launch of this vital initiative.
