IRD Engineering is gradually strengthening its presence in Asia through targeted interventions and high-quality technical support.
In the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR), the company is contributing to a key infrastructure initiative while reinforcing its commitment to capacity building and knowledge transfer through dedicated training activities.
The original assignment “Implementation Support and Supervision Consultancy Services for Local Roads of 5 Provinces” is funded by The World Bank Group under the Southeast Asia Regional Economic Corridor and Connectivity Project, a USD 200 million initiative designed to improve logistics connectivity and cross-border trade across Northern Laos, strengthening links with neighboring countries.
Executed through a Joint Venture led by IRD Engineering, in partnership with Yooshin International, the contract supports the Department of Roads (DOR) under the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT). The project focuses on upgrading and supervising nearly 300–400 km of local roads across the provinces of Phongsaly, Oudomxay, Luangnamtha, Xayabouly, and Luangprabang, using a hybrid performance-based contract (PBC) approach.
As part of these ongoing efforts, on May 26, 2026, IRD successfully conducted a high-impact training session in Vientiane.
The event brought together a wide range of key stakeholders, including representatives from MPWT, DOR, Provincial Departments of Public Works and Transport (DPWTs), and contractors actively involved in project execution. This created a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and alignment on project objectives.
The training addressed one of the most critical and challenging aspects of project delivery: the transition of hybrid contracts into the Operation and Maintenance (O&M) phase.
IRD experts provided clear and practical guidance on the roles, responsibilities, rights, and obligations of all parties, helping to demystify this complex stage and enhance contract management capacity.
The strong engagement and enthusiasm shown by participants highlighted both the relevance and effectiveness of the session. Through the use of real-world examples and tailored recommendations, IRD shared proven approaches to overcoming common challenges, equipping stakeholders with practical tools and strategies to ensure successful project implementation and long-term sustainability.
This initiative underscores IRD Engineering’s commitment not only to delivering high-quality infrastructure projects but also to strengthening local institutional capacity and fostering durable, resilient systems. It further consolidates IRD’s growing footprint in Asia, where the company is currently engaged in significant transport and water infrastructure projects in countries such as India, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Mongolia.
