IRD Engineering S.r.l. is pleased to announce the signature of a new service contract in Kosovo, in partnership with Groupe Huit and Origin Architecture. The consortium has been entrusted with preparing the Concept and Schematic Design for the Rehabilitation and Expansion of the Pristina Student Center into the Athletes’ Village, as well as the Rehabilitation of 13 Training Venues for the Mediterranean Games 2030.
The contract has been awarded by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), in coordination with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) and the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI) of the Republic of Kosovo.
Kosovo was officially selected in 2023 to host the Mediterranean Games 2030, a milestone event of national importance and a driving force for sustainable urban and social development. The Games align with the country’s mid‑term development strategy, representing a major infrastructure investment aimed at delivering long‑lasting value. To ensure that all facilities meet the operational requirements of an international multi‑sport event while serving long-term community needs, the Government of Kosovo sought AFD’s support for the preparation and financing of the necessary infrastructure.
The scope of the works contracts will include the transformation of the University of Prishtina Student Complex into an international‑standard Athletes’ Village. This will encompass the rehabilitation of 14 existing buildings, construction of new dormitory facilities and a semi‑Olympic swimming pool, modernization of the 1 Tetori Sports Hall and the Faculty of Physical Education Sports Hall, and the rehabilitation of 12 school‑based sports halls designated as Training Venues. The overall construction investment is estimated at approximately €53 million (VAT excluded).
The design phase will place strong emphasis on sustainability and legacy, ensuring the facilities remain fully functional and beneficial well beyond the Games. Key principles include high energy‑efficiency standards, climate‑resilient systems, universal accessibility, and full compliance with international technical and sports regulations.
Within the consortium, IRD Engineering will provide multidisciplinary expertise — including structural and building systems design and overall technical coordination.
IRD has been active in Kosovo for more than 25 years, successfully delivering over 30 investment projects and continuing to support the country with several ongoing initiatives.
Across all its operations in the region, IRD maintains a strictly neutral and professional stance regarding existing political sensitivities, fully aligning itself with the position of the European Union.
