Supervision of Phase II of the Sewerage Network Project in Nikšić
The HYDROPHIL GmbH – IRD Engineering Joint Venture has been awarded the contract for the supervision of Phase II of the Sewerage Network Project in Nikšić, following an international tender procedure. The contract was signed with the Municipality of Nikšić.
The project forms part of Montenegro’s ongoing efforts to strengthen wastewater infrastructure and advance compliance with European Union environmental standards. It is financed through a combination of funding from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and grants provided under the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF).
The investment includes the construction of more than 41 km of new sewerage network, the construction of the new Ćemenca Pumping Station, the rehabilitation of the existing Duklo Pumping Station, and the extension of wastewater collection services to more than 10,500 residents in the settlements of Dragova Luka, Ćemenca, Ostrovac and Rubeža. The project will also improve the operational performance of the existing Nikšić Wastewater Treatment Plant.
IRD Engineering’s responsibilities include:
- Acting as Supervising Engineer for the construction works, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements, technical specifications, applicable standards, quality, environmental and health and safety requirements, monitoring construction progress, administering the works contract, and coordinating with the Contracting Authority, Contractor and project stakeholders throughout project implementation.
The project will significantly improve wastewater collection and environmental protection within the Municipality of Nikšić by reducing groundwater contamination from septic systems and improving the quality of the Bistrica and Zeta rivers, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
