Environmental, Social and Road Safety Studies for the A-380 Highway around Nukus

The project concerns the preparation of environmental, social, climate resilience and road safety studies for the rehabilitation and construction of a strategic 41 km section of the A-380 Highway around Nukus in the Republic of Uzbekistan. The section forms part of the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor (TCTC), an important international transport route supporting regional connectivity between Central Asia and Europe.
The proposed investment includes the rehabilitation and widening of the existing highway, construction of a new bypass, bridges, interchanges and associated local road infrastructure. The project is being developed in accordance with the environmental, social and climate requirements of the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), ensuring that the future investment meets international sustainability, resilience and road safety standards.
The assignment is financed by the European Union under the Global Gateway Initiative and supports the preparation of the project prior to its implementation through comprehensive technical studies and assessments.
IRD Engineering’s responsibilities include:
- Preparation of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA)
- Preparation of the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP)
- Preparation of the Stakeholder Engagement Plan (SEP)
- Preparation of the Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment (CRVA)
- Preparation of the Road Safety Impact Assessment (RSIA)
- Carrying out the Road Safety Audit (RSA)
- Identification of environmental, social and climate-related risks and development of mitigation measures
- Support to project preparation in accordance with the environmental and social requirements of the EIB, IsDB and international best practices
The assignment contributes to the sustainable development of one of Uzbekistan’s key transport corridors by integrating environmental protection, social safeguards, climate resilience and road safety considerations into the project design.
