Design Review and Supervision of the Works for Beshiri Bridge

The Government of Albania is implementing the Building Resilient Bridges Project to improve the safety and resilience of key national road infrastructure. Within this framework, IRD Engineering has been entrusted with the Design Review and Construction Supervision of the new Beshiri Bridge, a strategic crossing along the SH56 corridor connecting Tirana and Durrës. The existing bridge—originally built before WWII, reconstructed in 1960, and severely damaged by the 2019 earthquake and the 2020 floods—requires full replacement. A World Bank–funded Feasibility Study (2021–2022) confirmed the construction of a new, seismically resilient structure on an improved alignment. The new 179-meter bridge will feature six spans (2×29.5 m + 4×30 m), two 1-meter pedestrian paths, and upgraded safety features, improving traffic flow and access to the rapidly developing agritourism areas along the Erzen River valley.
Scope of Services
IRD Engineering provides full lifecycle support to the project, including design review and bidding assistance through the validation of detailed designs and tender documents, followed by construction supervision under FIDIC and Albanian regulations to ensure quality, safety, environmental and social compliance, as well as cost, schedule, claim and variation management. During the Defect Notification Period, IRD oversees inspections, outstanding works, environmental restoration and the issuance of the Performance Certificate, contributing to the delivery of a modern, resilient and safe river crossing that enhances connectivity between Tirana and Durrës.
