Design and Supervision Services for the Construction and Commissioning of an Animal By-product Processing Plant

In the current Moldovan food production context, one of the biggest challenges is the safe management and disposal of animal waste, particularly the animal by-products (ABPs). The current methods and patterns of disposal are not compliant with the international best practice, resulting in high public health and environmental risks. For this reason, the safe management of ABPs became one of the key priorities identified by sector authorities in relation to the required institutional and technical enhancements of the country’s food safety management system.

To help tackle this problem, the World Bank is financing a program aiming at enhancing the human, institutional, and technical capacities of the Moldovan food safety and quality management systems, ensuring regulatory and system compliance with sanitary and phytosanitary standards from premium food export markets, primarily the European Union.

In this context IRD Engineering signed a new contract for the engineering Supervision of the Design, Supply, and Installation of a National Animal By-Product Processing facility.

The new plant is a greenfield project which includes a line dedicated to Category 3 ABPs and another line for Categories 1 and 2 ABPs, all in compliance with the current EU standards. It will be located in the central part of the country (Criuleni district, 40 km far from the capital city, Chisinau).

IRD Engineering carries out the duties of “the Project Manager” as defined by the World Bank’s “Plant: Design, Supply, and Installation Conditions of Contract”, including the management of all aspects concerning the contract administration and specific environmental and social (E&S) requirements, and of any variations and claims occurred during the implementation of the project.
