In the heart of Romania, an impressive project is taking shape, designed to transform how we travel and to stimulate the economic development of the country: the Buzău – Focșani Highway (Section 4). Spanning nearly 12 kilometers, this section, located between km 71+500 and km 82+440 (Mândrești Munteni – Focșani Nord), is more than just a road segment; it symbolizes Romania’s commitment to modernizing its infrastructure and ensuring the safety of its citizens. The supervision contract was signed on September 12, 2022, and after only 12 months of works supervision, IRD and Contractor’s expertise create the necessary conditions for opening traffic on this section.
The Buzău – Focșani Highway represents a true bridge of opportunities. Initiated in accordance with the EU’s RTE-T (TEN-T) strategy, this project addresses essential needs for traffic flow. By shortening travel times and providing an efficient alternative to congested national roads, this section will change how people and goods move in Moldova.
The highway will significantly enhance road safety by reducing risks on DN2/E85, also known as the “Death Road.” Modernizing the infrastructure will lower vehicle maintenance costs, thereby facilitating the transport of goods and passengers.
Construction works are progressing rapidly, exceeding initial estimates. Recently, essential operations have been carried out, including the installation of safety barriers, the application of horizontal and vertical road markings and signage, the installation of noise-absorbing panels, and glare-reducing panels. Additionally, slopes have been reinforced, providing extra protection, and safety fences have been installed along the entire route. These measures not only meet but also enhance safety standards, preparing the way for the next phases of the project.
